Authorization

Step by step on how to connect your Alpaca account with Soci

Authorizing Soci's Alpaca app inside your Alpaca account is the first step you need to take to connect your account and trade automatically. You can initiate this process in one of two ways.

  • Subscribe from our website > Click on the Connect Alpaca button after successful payment

  • Inside our Discord server, type /soci Alpaca and click the unique link that is generated.

Both steps should take you to a page that looks like this. If you don't see this page right away, you might just need to sign up first. This first page is sent from Alpaca's servers asking you to authorize Soci to trade on your behalf. Click Allow if you agree.

What a successful connection looks like

Authorization may take a few seconds, so be patient. If connected successfully, you'll find yourself at a page that looks like this.

Click on My account and you should be redirected to your Alpaca OAuth page and see that Soci is now listed under "My Connected Apps". You can Revoke Access at any time.

Soci's Alpaca app allows us to:

  • Submit changes to your account configurations, such as changing whether or not shorting is enabled.

  • Place new orders and cancel or modify your existing orders.

We suggest removing any other Authorized apps before you start automated trading. There is no way for us to know how other third-party apps will behave while Soci is connected.

Error during authorization

If something went wrong during the authorization process, you probably made your way to a page that looks like this.

In any case, this means that Soci was not able to connect to your Alpaca account. This can be because of a few reasons:

  1. You have third party settings turned off

  2. You have a conflicting third-party application that is already connected

  3. Your Alpaca account does not have the right permissions to work with other OAuth apps

If none of these issues seem to be resonating with you, report the bug.
